Instructions for Registering Trailers in Maine
includes truck trailers, horse trailers and boat trailers. We DO NOT register live in or camper trailers.
- Registration:
- If the trailer is currently titled in your name or is 1992 or older, we need only a copy of the title or bill of sale for proof of ownership.
- If the trailer has a GVW (unit plus load) of 2,000 lbs. or less, the fee is $40.00 for 5 years.
- If the GVW is over 2,000 lbs., the fee is $90.00 for 5 years.
- We do not register live-in or camper trailers.
- Titles:
If the trailer is 1993 or newer with an unladen (empty) weight of more than 3,000 lbs. and is not titled in your or your company's name, it must be titled in Maine.
We need:- The original title signed over to you or your company.
- We need a Power of Attorney (download) signed and your birth date.
NOTE: plates will be mailed first class postage in approximately 10 business days after we receive your request.
For a FedEx fee of $35.00 you will have your plates in approximately 5 business days.
Titles will be mailed from the BMV in 4 - 6 weeks.
WE WILL NOTARIZE THE DOCUMENTS AT NO CHARGE.
THE MINIMUM LONG TERM REGISTRATION IS 5 YEARS, UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE TRAILERS REGISTERED IN THE SYSTEM
